Son-Kul lake
Son-Kul Lake is a huge hollow, water surface level is 3016 meters above the sea level, altitude of the surrounding ridges is 4000 meters above the sea level. Its length is more than 30 km, width – 20km, depth – more than 20 meters.
Son-Kul is freshwater lake: there are 11 rivers flowing into the lake and 1 river a part of Naryn River flows out of it. Waterfowl inhabits the lake and shallow water; mountain goose from India nests on small islands here. Fauna is also rich : Mountain Ibex, Argali, Roe-Deer, Bear and Snow Leopard.
On the shores of the lake one can see anci ent burial places: mounds and stone sculptures.
The remote mountain lake at an altitude of about 3000 m became a quite popular place for tourists, as it offers, due to its situation at a high plateau, surrounded by fertile pastures and peaks between 3300 and 4000m, an impressive and fascinating nature experience.
